Art in English for Kids, Winter 2012

7-11 years old children, who are English speaking or want to practice English while enjoying art-making

Time:
Week 1 (January 2nd- 6th), 2012, 9:00-12:15

What we'll do:
Workshops with Eungyung Kim(MFA, MPS): Drawing Together
In this workshop, children will both work individually and collectively- creating own unique works and creating enviornments together as a group (e.g. animals and their environment, houses and neighborhood). Workshop involves painting, drawing, constructing three-dimensional works with various materials. The program emphasizes on free self-expression through art- art as communication, expression and connection- in a warm and encouraging environment.

Workshops with Laura Wesamaa(MFA): Garden
We will think of the idea of gardens together by looking at various art works and selected pictures of different types of gardens. By drawing and painting the children will get to design their own imaginary gardens. Later some elements of the garden will be developed, creating three-dimensional forms using various simple building techniques.

Exhibition:
The last day of the workshops, we will have an exhibition where the children can see their creations during the week. Parents and visitors are welcome to celebrate and marble with us!

Teachers:
Eungyung Kim, MFA, MPS is a US born Korean artist and art therapist trained at The School of Visual Arts in New York. She holds master's degrees both in fine art and art therapy. She has been exhibiting her art in the US, Korea, Japan, Finland and more. Last 6 years in Finland, she has been running various art therapy groups and teaching art to people of all ages- from 3-90!
She speaks fluent English and Korean, good Finnish and basic Japanese.

Laura Wesamaa, MFA is a Finnish artist living and working in Helsinki. After graduating from the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in 2006, she has exhibited her work at Helsinki City Museums Kluuvi Gallery and Galleri Bergman and taken part and organized numerous group shows in Finland and other countries. Laura has previously worked with children and taught art subsituting at Helsingin Taiteilijseura, Itä-Helsingin työväenopisto, Arbis as well as different comprehensive schools in Helsinki.
